Mixed Media

Perhaps the fact that I had a recent birthday, or something in the air, that makes me want a change..
 I paint mostly traditional watercolor. Paint, water and brush.
However, just in the past week I've gotten the urge to do watercolors with some papers, text, etc added. Mixed Media .
So this is Numero Uno .. watercolor flowers, handmade papers, text and some touches of gold .. I had no plan, ( do I ever)? just started with the delicate flowers and so on. 
Yes, think I'll play with this for a while..
I've always had my hand in making tiny journals, glue, papers and so the journey continues.. BJ

Oregon Barn

I'm not a landscape painter, but had to try  this one .
While in Oregon my friend Jerry and I were traveling down the
highway and I took a photo of  this barn so I think I'll send it to him.. whether he likes it or not !!!!!

Quick Sketch

Lately I've been fascinated by these quick sketch projects..
It's not my usual, but I drew a familiar piece that I'd done not long ago.. Very fast and very fun.. so much so that I'm going to do a few subjects that I like in the same technique. 
I have 3 exhibits coming up associated with my Art Guild so I'd better get serious..   
    

Breakfast For One

You know how that slump hits you everyonce in a while ?
Well when that happens to me I find that making small watercolors keeps my hand in the paint so to speak.. This is a recipe card size for making oatmeal . I've made others for Lemonade, Chicken Salad etc. , and other simple recipes. No , I'm not a good cook, if I cook at all ...
 I make toast . !!!

Mr. Rabbit

  I've been doing some small w/c sketches and paintings..
This is w/c on 8x10" Cansons 140 lb. 
 When I go for a walk just around dusk, they're all out feeding on the green grasses.
Now that I look at it  again, I know that I could and should have left some lost edges especially under the neck/chest area.  But that's how we learn for next time !!! . BJ

Thanks to Sharon at Wildflower House  where I first saw the idea for calander pages. I had to make one .
 I will still add some critters at the ground.

I was too late to post on the Rookie Painter, but did a few of the challenges anyway.  I have some projects planned but my mind is on other things.  I have always had to paint with a clear head, and when is that you ask?    BJ

 Posting what I managed to do today. My water jar, my Winsor Newton white ceramic that holds some of my brushes.. that I've had for ages  and hope I never drop it.
The flowers were from memory, nondescript but the idea came from a long time ago of something I'd seen. Painted, framed and hung in my studio.  BJ

I couldn't resist painting this Jack Russell terrier.   Done on Arches 140lb C/P paper.  11x14" .  

For Today

Most of my writings are on my Journey blog  .
These are a pencil sketch from last week and a watercolor ( lets call it a sketch also) that I did around the same time...    Lately I'm having a problem committing my self to anything serious... and to top that off.... my photos of these are not good,  'The Force'  is not with me today.. !!!    BJ   

. I was not happy with the long petal on the lower right side, had to scrub it out and rework it.. Thank goodness for good w/c paper. Arches CP 140 lb.

A WIP

How many peonies and poppies can I paint? As many as I want to. I'm still working some areas that I'm unhappy with, but it's coming along. I used a 1/2" flat for the petals and Permanent Rose, cerulean blue, new gamboge, a little this and a little that.

A Tribute To Georgia O'Keefe

I've always admired Georgia O'Keefe. Not only for her large flower paintings but as a woman she crossed all lines in both her art and personal life. I have a book .. Georgia O'Keefe Art and Letters. (1987) One of the letters she wrote to a dear friend said in part "I don't see why we ever think of what others think of what we do-no matter who they are-isn't it enough to just express ourselves ?" There is a film coming up this month (TV) and I'll be sure to catch it. Although I've painted and posted many a poppy, (my banner on this blog) neither of these are poppies and both were done years ago.

Watercolor 11x14

Same subject posted earlier in pencil . I love working with both mediums, so I did one of each. Why Not ? I don't own a tube of black. All my near blacks are made with either paynes gray or a blue ( ultramarine, indigo, plus Burnt Sienna) I'll sometimes add a touch of sap green, or if I want a reddish cast, alizaron crimson. Collar bones need softening . Yes!

White Flower

My inspiration is back, alive and well. I'm in the mood again to attempt some small watercolors. This is one of two I did yesterday. Just 5"x7". I've always liked working on small pieces when it comes to watercolor. My attempts at larger pieces are just too much like work. I really admire artists that can work on those big paintings .
